OBEKI sets its sights on marine propulsion
Obeki continues to diversify its production for the maritime sector. The company is already a European benchmark in the design and manufacturing of motors for deck winches and capstans used on all types of vessels (fishing boats, oceanographic ships, container ships, etc.), supplying some of the most prominent machinery manufacturers in Europe.
To this product line, it has added the supply of electric propulsion motors for river barges, especially in France, where the reduction of emissions is prompting a shift from diesel engines to more sustainable solutions. One recent example is the Parisian boat Paris-Montmare, which carries tourists along the Seine powered by an Obeki motor. The company also supplies motors to freight transport barges navigating the extensive French river network. Obeki’s small propulsion motors are also installed on recreational boats and serve as auxiliary propulsion systems on larger ships, performing functions such as maneuvering and positioning (bow thrusters).
Obeki originally began by manufacturing hoisting motors for Jaso cranes currently accounting for around 25% of its production and diversified into the naval sector fifteen years ago. Since then, it has experienced rapid growth, becoming a key player in Europe. Many of its motors are integrated into winches made by a European manufacturer for the large container ships built by Chinese and Korean shipyards for major operators like CMA, Evergreen, and Maersk.
