FAGOR ARRASATE expands its Mondragón plant with an investment over 20 million euros.

The cooperative is constructing a new industrial building for heavy machining to modernize and increase its production capacity, with a strong commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency.

Fagor Arrasate is carrying out a significant industrial investment at its headquarter in Mondragón, aimed at modernizing and expanding its production capacity, as well as optimizing and reorganizing its industrial spaces. The initiative includes the construction of a new building of approximately 6,000 square meters, attached to the current facilities, on the land previously used as the cooperative’s parking area.

The new building will have a heavy structure machining unit, capable of handling components weighing up to 200 tons. This will allow Fagor Arrasate to centralize its heavy machining operations in Mondragón, a process considered strategic to its production cycle. This move will strengthen a critical part of manufacturing while significantly improving process efficiency and sustainability.

The new milling and boring machines equipped with tables up to 30 meters long and mobile columns 7 meters high, will be installed in this machining unit will not only raise quality standards but also reduce energy consumption and CO₂ emissions. This will contribute to the decarbonization of Fagor Arrasate’s industrial processes.

This investment, Fagor Arrasate will be able to carry out all stages of the production process at its Mondragón plant, avoiding the need to transport heavy components to other locations for machining. This will result in a significant improvement in time, cost, and environmental sustainability.

LEED Gold Certification: A milestone in sustainability

The new industrial building will be LEED Gold certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), awarded by the U.S. Green Building Council.

This certification, one of the most prestigious internationally in the field of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, acknowledges that the building meets high standards in areas such as energy efficiency, sustainable water management, indoor environmental quality, use of responsible materials, and emissions reduction.

With this certification, the building becomes one of the most sustainable in the Basque Country and a benchmark within the region’s industrial and manufacturing sector.

Renewable energy and electric mobility

Additionally, the project has included the merging of plots P-1 and P-4c. The latter was the site of the old red office building of Fagor Electrodomésticos, now demolished, which will allow for the creation of a new parking area.

The new parking facility will be equipped with photovoltaic canopies that will generate renewable energy for self-consumption, helping to reduce CO₂ emissions, improve the plant’s energy efficiency, and reinforce the cooperative’s commitment to sustainability and the energy transition. This infrastructure will not only provide shade and protection for vehicles but will also be integrated with electric mobility solutions.

A strategic investment for the future

With a total investment of over 20 million euros, including construction, land development, machinery, and installations, this initiative represents Fagor Arrasate’s strong commitment to growth and innovation from its base in Mondragón. It takes advantage of currently unused industrial land to develop high value-added projects that will generate qualified employment.

The new infrastructure will make it possible to manufacture larger and better machines, some of the largest in the world, supporting the cooperative’s diversification strategy into new products and sectors.

The new building is expected to be completed by April 2026 and to begin operations in early 2027.
